Guinea pig buddies

Guinea pig buddies

I am wondering about good guinea pig buddies. I know some animals, such as dogs and cats, like "buddies" to have someone to play with.

My daughter has a guinea pig Miss Piggy. We've had her for about a year now, she is doing well. She seems very happy.

She is very friendly, and lets the kids hold her and pet her. She sometimes "purrs" as they pet her. My daughter keeps insisting she needs a friend.

I'm afraid if we get another one they might fight, or certainly multiply! Would two females fight? Or would Miss Piggy become less friendly?

Thanks for your suggestions!

The best buddy for a guinea pig is another guinea pig.

You don't have to worry about them multiplying if you take the same sex pet. Or you can just spay and neuter them.

Two females should not fight. I have two female guinea pigs and they get along great.

However, when you introduce the new guinea pig to Miss Piggy it would be best to pay attention at the beginning to see how will they react to each other.

If you socialize the new pet from the beginning, not only Miss Piggy will not be less friendly but you will have one more cuddly pet in the house.

Guinea pigs are very social animals and they should be kept in pairs so I think it would be a great choice to get another one.

Maybe you would like to check available guinea pigs for adoption?
